A Shared Technical Foundation: Supporting Product Innovation

The performance of vacuum insulation products depends on the combined contributions of core materials, barrier materials, getters, encapsulation processes, and testing capabilities.

SuperTech’s predecessor was established in 2007. The company was reorganized as a joint-stock company in 2017 and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market in February 2020 under stock code 688398. Over 19 years in vacuum insulation, it has developed technical and production capabilities covering core materials, barrier films, adsorbent materials, vacuum encapsulation, and performance testing. It also served as a principal drafting organization for standards including Vacuum Insulation Panels (GB/T 37608–2019).

Building on this foundation, VacuEco develops products for different operating conditions: preformed bottom shells support thin structures, laser-welded metal encapsulation improves sealing and protection, and modular composite designs address engineering requirements.

This technical expertise also supports quality control. SuperTech has developed equipment for rapid thermal conductivity testing, helping make inspection of every finished product more efficient and connecting research, manufacturing, and testing.

Ultra-Thin Vacuum Insulation Panels: Thermal Insulation in Millimeter-Scale Spaces

When space is limited, how can insulation performance and material thickness be balanced?

VacuEco’s Ultra-Thin Vacuum Insulation Panels combine a porous core, getters, and a high-barrier composite film. With thermal conductivity as low as 2.0 mW/(m·K), equivalent to 0.0020 W/(m·K), and a thickness of 1–5 mm, they provide an insulation option for compact spaces.

The panels use a preformed barrier-film bottom shell. Their puncture resistance exceeds 6.2 times that of conventional VIPs, and heat-seal strength is increased by 40%. The operating temperature range is −40°C to 90°C. Flexible, bendable versions are available, with customizable dimensions, thicknesses, and shapes.

A battery pack comparison test used an initial temperature of 25°C, an ambient temperature of −20°C, and natural convection. The top and bottom surfaces of each battery pack were fully covered with either 3 mm Ultra-Thin Vacuum Insulation Panels or conventional insulation foam. The foam-insulated pack cooled to 0°C in approximately 3.5 hours, while the pack insulated with Ultra-Thin Vacuum Insulation Panels took approximately 10 hours.

Under these test conditions, the time required to cool to 0°C was approximately 2.9 times that of the control group.

From traction battery packs and consumer electronics to in-vehicle refrigerators and other space-constrained applications, Ultra-Thin Vacuum Insulation Panels demonstrate the value of thin insulation. Their suitability for localized thermal isolation in buildings can also be evaluated based on connection details and installation conditions.

Metal Vacuum Insulation Panels: Metal Encapsulation for a Wider Temperature Range

Materials used in high-temperature and cryogenic conditions need to combine temperature resistance, sealing, and mechanical protection.

VacuEco’s Metal Vacuum Insulation Panels use a preformed 0.1 mm SUS304 stainless steel bottom shell filled with a heat-resistant core. Precision laser welding creates a sealed vacuum structure. With thermal conductivity as low as 0.002 W/(m·K), the panels combine metal protection with vacuum insulation using SuperTech’s thin stainless steel foil welding process.

The recommended operating temperature range is −196°C to 800°C, with thicknesses of 2–40 mm. Specifications include puncture resistance of ≥207 N, seal strength of ≥330 N/15 mm, an overall leak rate of <10⁻¹⁰ Pa·m³/s, and a change in thermal conductivity after high- and low-temperature aging of ΔK ≤0.0001 W/(m·K). The panels also meet the A1 noncombustibility classification.

These characteristics provide a basis for evaluating the panels for industrial high-temperature equipment, energy storage, piping, and building envelopes. They also reflect VacuEco’s product development capabilities in materials for extreme temperatures.

For building applications, SuperTech also offers a shell-type VIP design that combines a rigid bottom shell with a high-barrier film. A flat perimeter seal, a fold-free edge design, and a regular panel shape help improve assembly fit and edge protection. The two product types share related technical foundations and can be selected according to temperature ranges and project conditions.

LNG-Specific VIP + PIR/PU Composite Insulation Panels: Composite Structures for Cryogenic Insulation

The LNG-specific panels exhibited at the show, known as VPU, are VIP + PIR/PU Composite Insulation Panels. These modular products use stainless-steel-encapsulated vacuum insulation panels embedded in polyisocyanurate (PIR) or polyurethane (PU) foam. The resulting VPU composite panels have thermal conductivity as low as 1.2 mW/(m·K), equivalent to 0.0012 W/(m·K).

Through high-barrier metal encapsulation, laser welding, getters designed for low temperatures, and a core structure that limits radiative heat transfer, VPU combines vacuum insulation technology with cryogenic insulation requirements.

Test data show that, at a mean temperature of −170°C, the core VIP has thermal conductivity of ≤0.0006 W/(m·K). This value applies to the internal core. The overall performance of the composite module must be evaluated according to its structure and the relevant test conditions.

To achieve equivalent thermal resistance under cryogenic conditions, the required thickness is lower than that of conventional foam and fibrous insulation materials. This creates opportunities to improve space utilization in ships, storage tanks, and cryogenic equipment. Specific comparisons require calculations based on project operating conditions.

With factory prefabrication and modular delivery, VPU demonstrates how the core performance of vacuum composite insulation materials can be applied in engineering projects.

Ultra-Thin Vacuum Insulation Panels address limited installation space, Metal Vacuum Insulation Panels support a broad range of temperature conditions, and VPU provides composite insulation for cryogenic applications. Each product draws on SuperTech’s technical expertise and reflects VacuEco’s continued response to specific application needs.

At BATIMAT, VacuEco’s products presented their technical characteristics as part of the parent company’s overseas exhibition. VacuEco will continue to draw on SuperTech’s research, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to develop applications for vacuum composite insulation materials and materials for extreme temperatures.
